So, How to make homemade litter box? Well, here are some ways to follow:
- Papers: Shredded papers can be a great resource for litter. You can use newspaper or junk mails too! The good thing about this approach is newspaper is almost free, available and costs next to nothing. For using newspaper as a litter, you need to shred it. A shredder is a perfect tool for this job. It will make your life easy.
Papers should be shredded into thin long pieces and added into the litter box in a lot of amounts. The only downside with this approach is you’ll need a very large amount of paper. And, of course, some cat may refuse to do business on shredded paper. You just have to deal with it!
- Wood Shavings: Wood shavings are quite cheap and they make great litter. You can buy bulk amount of them from nearby stores. They can be used for box liner too. A great upside of wood shavings is that as they have a natural scent, it mostly covers up the ammonia scent of the urine. So, wood shavings can control odor too!
- The combination of baking soda, chicken feed and cedar shavings: According to this article, the combination of these three items would make a great litter for cat. I have not used this method personally, but if you decide to do, keep an eye on the litter box as it may attract mice and other rodents.
- Sand: Sand is the most natural resource for cat litter. Wildcats use sand and natural clay for doing their business. Using sand will also awaken your cat’s natural instinct. Childrens’ play sand cost next to nothing. You can buy bulk amount of them and use it for a year!
for odor control, mix one cup f baking soda with the sand! If you choose to use sand, be sure to place mat under the box otherwise your home will be covered with kitty paws full of sands.
